Stylish Ways To Dress Your Windows
Stylish Ways To Dress Your Windows
Installing new windows is a great way to improve your home. Replacing old, cracked windows with modern ones does wonders for your kerb appeal and energy efficiency, and it’ll increase your property value as well. But getting them fitted isn’t the end of the story. Once the builders have tidied up and left in their van, what else can you do to make your windows shine?
Here at Ecostar, we’ve got years of experience working with windows. We specialise in replacements, but we’ve picked up a thing or two on dressing them as attractively as possible. Little things like regular cleaning help your windows to shine and improve their lifespans, but there are stylish ways to dress them too. Here are just a few.
Blinds And Shutters
Whenever you get new windows, it’s worth considering your shading options. You may already have curtains in place, but if you want something a bit more modern, you could swap them for blinds or shutters.
Window blinds, especially automated and motorised ones, have risen in popularity in recent years. They’re a very functional and versatile means of controlling light levels but also help you maintain your privacy. Shutters on the other hand, have a classic vibe. There’s something fresh and clean about them, and they look especially good in bathrooms. As a bonus, blinds and shutters also improve the thermal efficiency of your windows. When closed, they function almost like an extra pane of glass and are very good at trapping heat. This means you won’t need the heating or air conditioning on as much and your energy bills will drop.
Bamboo Shades
Bamboo shades are another option. If you’re a fan of natural products and airy rooms, they’re well worth investing in. Bamboo shades have a delightful, summery vibe and pair very well with light-coloured curtains. We’ve noticed that this combination makes rooms seem larger and with a few well-positioned houseplants, it’ll give your home a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.
Classic Curtains
There’s a lot to be said for curtains as well. They’ve been used to dress windows for centuries and while they’re a bit more old-fashioned than some of the alternatives, there’s a reason they’ve been around for so long. They have a timeless quality and if used well, add a degree of comfort and respectability.
Curtains would be our recommendation if you live in a heritage home. They also look great when placed on bay windows. A single curved bar running along the top of the window with a pair of long drapes hanging from it can be a lovely focal point.
Cafe Style Blinds
Lastly, let’s talk about cafe-style blinds. We could have included this in our earlier section but thought they deserved their own separate explanation. Cafe-style blinds are unusual in that they can be used to cover the bottom half of a window while leaving the top part clear. They’re ideal for maintaining privacy while letting in plenty of light, and as the name suggests, they’re often used in cafes. They’re the most “European” looking blinds available and have a lot of character.
This is just the start when it comes to dressing your windows. There are multiple colours, styles and configurations available and your choices aren’t limited. With a bit of creative ingenuity, you can bring your windows to life.
